Hi folks.
Is it alright to flush an outboard with fresh water with the engine in the tilt position and then leave it in that position?I live on a tidal creek in Georgia that goes dry twice a day and the boat stays at the floating dock through all tides.A friend said that this was not good for the engine but didn't know why.Any comments are appreciated.
Thanks

Re: Engine flush

it's better in the running postion, but flushing is better than no flushing. also if the boat stays in the water in the winter, you have to lower the motor to drain the water out of the motor to keep it from freezing, and cracking something. also change the lower fluid before the first freeze.

Are you flushing by running with muffs? Simply put on the muffs and hose, turn on the water and lower the motor to running position (muffs will be underwater). Run motor. Then shut off the motor and tilt it up with hose still running which will keep the salt water from re-entering. Remove hose and muffs. Clean fish.

Re: Engine flush

Thanks for the answers fellas. I will start flushing in the upright position with muffs and then let drain in the up position.
Tight lines and dry bilges!
