I'm a Newby, bought a boat last week. Checking over a few things I noticed over 3/16inch of free (end) play at the Propeller on my Alpha 1 Gen2. Did some searching on Internet for specs and found that prop shaft free play should be about a 1/16inch so got worried the bearings were wrecked.
I took the prop off and checked free play again. Shaft free play seems ok, about 1/16inch. Assembled prop again...its the prop that has about an 1.8inch of free play to the shaft.
Surely this can't be right? The taper on the shaft and washer is badly gald but the washer is not bottoming out on anything. The hub in the center of the rubber to aluminum prop is down from the top face by about a 1/16inch. Tried pressing it deeper in but it just moved back after taking off the load.
Any ideas which part is wrong? When I tighten up the nut it just tightens the splined washer hard against the shaft shoulder?
