1975 6HP Evinrude no power

Long story but here's the short version. Motor went underwater, I cleared the cyclinders, removed the flywheel cleaned and dryed everything there. Blew the carb out.

After reassembly moter ran fine in test tank and reached high RPMs. Put motor on boat and now it won't get high RPMs when throttled all the way up, seems to idle okay but no power and cuts out when boat is underway. Any ideas!?

Most likely the carb is still fouled with dirt,water or corrosion.You need to be sure all passages and jets are clear.You may want to be sure the fuel pump is working correctly.You can remove the gas line at the carb and carefully crank the motor with the line in a can.Gas should come in strong even pulses.

I'd say there is something shorted out in the magneto.
