Default '97 90 hp Mariner Cylinder dropping out

I have a 97 model 90 mariner. The engine had sat up for 5 years since the owner passed away. Anyway I bought it, replaced/ rebuilt carbs, new reed valves, new plugs, new CDM's (coils). Still the engine cranks on two cylinders to 2000 rpm then third kicks in. Stays on three to about 4000 rpm then drops to two. Don't know which cyl. is dropping out but problem is consistent and predicatable. Runs great between 2000 and 4000, not a miss. Checked timing OK. 'Bout to give up and use it as a FAD at the dock.
Somebody help don't really want to fish on top of it

Thanks Laddies,
After all that's been done I was relieved that someone else other than me thought it was the trigger. Sometimes don't you just wish the manufactures would go back to plugs and points.
Thanks Again
Hamma
