Re: please help timing on 1307HA
First, you need to pull the flywheel to install the new belt. Next, after installation and with the flywheel torqued, but with the belt and distributor loose, (Forward bolt on dist is in a slot.) turn the flywheel so that the 0 deg. mark lines up with the pointer bolted to the upper manifold. Next line up the distributor pulley so the curved line matches the flywheel and the straight line is pointing either on a tooth or in the gap between them. (it may not be exact.) Now install the belt on the dist. pulley. Tighten the distributor until a .010 feeler gauge pointed like a finger into the center of the belt depresses the belt about 1/8 to 3/16 inch without bending. Too tight and the dist. will bind up both shift and throttle linkage. Too loose and you get sloppy timing. Last, adjust timing link at distributor for 32 deg advance at Wide Open Throttle. The mark on the flywheel is 36 deg advance so you must have it set 4 lines after the big line on the pointer bolted to the top manifold to get 32. If your pointer only has a single line check to see if the scribed line on the flywheel is at 32 or 36. If it is 32, match lines. If it is 36, about 1 tooth on the flywheel late is about right. (Count teeth on flywheel and divide into 360 -- that will give degrees per tooth.)
