Dose a 1959 evinrude lark have a thermostat? If so what would be a rough estimate on when it would open and motor start to "pee". I ran the motor for just a minute or two and it never started to "pee". I shut it off and ordered a new impeller probably needs one anyway and someone told me that it might have a thermostat.

It has one, under the cover on top of the cylinder head (3 screws). It opens at 140o However there should be some water discharge any time the motor is running. It varies in amount as the 'stat opens and closes (which it does often in order to maintain proper temperature).

I believe those motors had a "spit" outlet in the rear of the midsection. If you stick a meat thermo into this stream, you should have a reading near 140 degrees, if the thermo is working properly. The balance of the water exits behind the prop, and cannot be seen while operating the motor in the water.
