it should not be possible for the correct trim unit to strike anywhere except the correct spot. It position is fixed by the lower shaft and transom brackets. The position of swivel bracket is also fixed by transom brackets. For the two items to be out of alignment requires that one of the three parts is either the incorrect model, very badly damaged, or installed in a terribly wrong fashion.
perhaps you have the wrong model of trim ram? Your trim housing should have 5/8" x11' mounting shaft with trim piston exactly in middle. The offset trim is for smaller engines.
