Hi to everybody, I have to say this is a kick a..s forum regarding boat engines, I am new in this field , I just got a 15' 1960 Cutter Jet deville with a Johnson 40 hp motor and I have a few questions.

1.What are the basics before getting the boat on the lake.
The boat was not on the water since 1985 or started, the carburator plates are clean and moving freely.

2.What oil ration this engine uses I saw here that somebody said 25:1, some 50:1, on the original gas canister it states 50:1 I am confused.

3. What are the things I have to watch for?weak points?

4.The engine has Champion J-4J spark plugs whitch are out of production, what is the new spark plug code?

5.Can I mix carburator cleaner with the gas/oil mix?

Please feel free to share anything regarding this engine I don t want to get stranded on the lake pants down.

PS- I am mechanicaly inclined but I worked only on car engines not boats even do that the basic staf is the same.
