I have never worked on that motor, but in general the units are very simple.
the problem is that some of the parts will inevitably fall out before you see how they are put together.
I recommend that you purchase a factory manual. there are always a few tricks that make the job a lot easier.
the parts on this project are going to be expensive. you might look for a used lower unit.
in addition to any gears and bearings. replace all o rings and seals as well as the water pump impeller. check oil at bottom plug after first 2 uses and regularly after that.
lower unit failure is often caused by fishing line eating the oil seals. there is a product called a sharks tooth that cuts line before it gets in the prop
