Tarp issues

We own a pontoon boat with a few other families. Presently, the boat stays in the water during the summer months. Different families are assigned different weeks in the year--but not all families use the boat. The problem is we live in Florida where it rains almost every day. Water accumulates in the tarp and has popped some of the snaps from the weight of the water. Also, the seats have started to get mildew due to the moisture. My question is this: Is there a way to rig the tarp so the water won't collect and make a "mini pond" on the boat? Can you tell we are a first time boat owners? :)
Thanks so much,
Susan

Re: Tarp issues

Put something under the tarp to hold it up. A chair, a pole etc. Just lift the middle of the tarp higher than the rest of it, and the water should drain off to the side.

My first thought is how do you handle the repairs among several owners when someone says the boat is broke? And how do you determine who broke it? Geez can I see a "user feud". Anyway -- to the point of your question. There are a number of extendable poles made especially for this. They push up the cover so it tents rather than sagging so water doesn't pool.

Re: Tarp issues

Thank you for both of your suggestions. I failed to mention that we do have one pole in the middle that holds the tarp up, but water still collects. Hmmm--Two poles?
So far we have not had any problems "sharing" the boat. We have also shared the cabin for a number of years with no problems. I guess we are lucky!! (-:
Thanks for any additional ideas for the tarp!

Re: Tarp issues

like stated. the idea is to get it to be a tent. drain off from any point. taught is almost a must. two poles sounds like it might be a start. be creative too. mines a speedboat, but for my summer covering (rain) i don't use my pole. i have a large beach ball on my ft. deck. a small beach ball on the rear deck. that makes my tent for run off........winter it gets the pole too. + sweeping the drifts off of it if it becomes too heavy.......
