Will a different gearcase work on my boat. Ebay has lots of them at a good price. If anything, I might be able to just take the driveshaft out of a different gearcase. ? ? ?

69 & 70 85 & 115, 71 & 72 85, 100, 115. The 85 will have a slightly different gear ratio, don't worry about it.

just to clarify:

1969 & 1970 are the years that the 85hp and 115hp are interchangeable?

and

the 1971 and 72 models (85hp, 100hp, and 115hp) will fit my 1970 motor too?

:)

If you check the drive shaft P/N on http://epc.brp.com/default.aspx?brands=ej&lang=E&dealerlocator=no the only years your particular motor shares is 1970-71, 85 hp and up. I have no experience with interchanges of these parts, I can just read the schematics. There must be a reason for having different P/N's for the drive shafts. Remember "caveat emptor" when buying from Ebay. Nothing wrong with it, especially in your position; but just double check the interchangeability.

After looking at your link, I was able to find a list of motors using the same driveshaft:
Where Used: [0384424 (DRIVESHAFT ASSY.)]
100193A 1971-->GEARCASE
100193C 1971-->GEARCASE
100ESL71A 1971-->GEARCASE

85093D 1970-->GEARCASE GROUP
85ESL71A 1971-->GEARCASE
85ESL71H 1971-->GEARCASE

125ESL71C 1971-->GEARCASE
85193A 1971-->GEARCASE
85193H 1971-->GEARCASE
85ESL70B 1970-->GEARCASE GROUP
85ESL70D 1970-->GEARCASE GROUP

Ebay does not have any of them for sale. Thanks for the heads up.

I was unable to google any place which sells any of the driveshafts listed either.

If this is the same motor in your other thread that mentions a sprung exhaust housing, for the expense of chasing the gremlins in your motor and not getting it right, it may make sense to part this one out on ebay and get a known motor of good value.

This is the same motor.

I am going to try one more time to fix it BEFORE calling it quits.

I've only had the boat out once and every thing seemed fine:rolleyes:

It starts up great now. Better than my Briggs&Straton.

all i have to do is get power to the propeller. I can do it. I know I can. I WILL NOT LET THE GREMLINS WIN!

If it leaves me out on the lake one more time I will probably Just cut it loose and push it off the back of the boat.:D

You and I (73-135 Evinrude) have the same peculiar situation in that the motors we own are parts specific to such a small universe of OMC models. Keep looking, you never know when these things pop up. E-mail the guys selling 1970 -71 85hp and up stuff with a bad lower unit. The drive shaft might be usable and priced right too.
