I replaced both my throttle and shift cables on my 1989 Mariner 75hp 3cyl today as one of the cable's insulation rusted through completely. Everything fit in its place without a hitch. My question is, what direction do I adjust the trunions on the engine end of the cable.. Do I make any adjustments on the controller end (its a Commander 2000 controller). The current way it's hooked up, the neutral position on the controller is aft of 0 degrees (straight up/down or vertical). Which direction do I adjust the trunion on the shift cable to bring it to 0 degrees. Do I turn the trunion on the engine end further out towards the cable end or closer towards the controller? Same thing with the throttle cable, any adjustments need to be made here with that trunion?

Normally you put the engine in neutral and the control in neutral and adjust the "Barrell Nut" at the engine to smoothly fit into the clamp.

For the throttle cable, you normally adjust the barrell nut until it pushes the throttle closed, and a turn or so more to give a bit of "preload"

Sounds easy enough. thanks for the reply, the way it is now, reverse is grinding quite a bit, but did not previously. i'll try this method. anyone else have any other tips on the trunion adjustments.
