I have a three month old Mercury 60 hp 4 stroke Bigfoot engine. At low revs it idles irratically. I have had it services (it only has 33 hrs on the clock) as well as computer diagnosed with no results. Some of the agents even suggested that the engine should miss like this and that; "that is what fourstrokes do"!!!! The computer diagnostics shows that the engine is 100%. The idling is smooth from 2500 revs and up but at slow speeds and at idling it seems to miss every fourth to fith revolution. We are at a loss in South Africa for a dealer that has any clue what goes on in 4stroke technology. Maybe someone can help??? I have emailed Mercury international, but have not had any reply. My nearest agent is 300 miles away (one way!).
What the octane levels out there? Whats the fuel pressure and vacum readings? Is the map sensor reading right? Did ya check the compression and spark?
FYI.......Mercury Rep. will come to you if you complain alot
My 2007 60 Hp Bigfoot is in the shop right now for this exact problem. Terrible idle below 2000 rpm. It wants to stall, an sometimes will. I will let you know what they say.
