the motor will only start and stay on while I push in the key to prime the carbs. Could this be fuel pump problem of need to rebuild carbs? It starts and accell fine as long as I keep priming with key. Any Ideas?

I had the same problem with my 1990 50Hp. It would only run right when I pushed the key in. I rebuilt the carbs and she runs like a top. There was a lot of gunk and buildup in the carb jets. Take a small strand of copper wire and run it in and out of the jets and blow out with high pressure air, that might help.
