Question 1985 Evinrude 40hp fuel pump type?

The VRO pump was taken off the engine I purchased and is now a premix engine. The former owner used Part #393648 fuel pump, is this the right pump for this size engine, its leaking fuel from the pump housing, should I rebuild or replace if it IS the right fuel pump.My seloc manual said they can not be rebuilt.

I would just replace it. It's about $68.00 and the updated part number is 438559. It is the correct pump for your engine...

OMC specified those pumps for a number of years as unserviceable, but it's the same pump as the 3-cylinders from about 1968 on up - the sierra repair kit part number is 18-7820, about $12 and a half-hour of your time. You'll need gasket remover and gasket sealer, permatex is good, there's a springloaded part that'll jump out at ya, don't let it get away, careful not to score the housing when removing the old gasket material.

That's great info too thanks. Ordered a new one from an iboats vendor and will rebuild the old one and keep it as a spare keeping any down time to a minimum.
