I have some factory treated wood in my boat that I need to do some fiberglassing on. What is the best way to prep the wood?

Just make sure it's very dry and use some coarse sand paper to roughen the surface a little, the sanding isn't really needed but it does help. Pre-coat the wood with resin, but don't get carried away with thinning the resin, it will degrade and weaken it, stick with less than 10% acetone or styrene for polyester.

Ondarv hit the nail on the head about the wood being dry, it isn't an option. Sanding with some 80# paper is a good idea but also need to wipe the dust off with your acetone. Wearing a good pair of chemical proof gloves is also good. Not those cheap "surgical" type but heavy duty one's. The acetone will eat them up in seconds.

Thanks guys. Thats what I thought. I'm using epoxy resin and figured the heavy sanding was about the best thing to do to give the resin something to hold on to.

Thanks again. :)
