Use boat with tilt lock removed

My 275 unit has several broken bits on the tilt lock mechanism. Can I use the boat safely with everything but the bearing sleeve removed?
I can't afford to replace it all this season.

As long as you NEVER use reverse.

I would not do that, you will need reverse for maneuvering, docking, etc, or in an emergency situation to avoid another boat. In addition, should you try to slowly go into reverse and the drive pops up and bangs back down...not good for various other parts. Get it fixed and be safe.

ok, I won't say no one told me so.

I have a line on some parts to repair it. Getting the parts changed looks like something I will have to pay a professional to do. I have no idea how to get to the sleeve
