I have a 1982 Mercruiser 470 stalling problem. The engine starts (idles fine) and is good until it gets up to a temp of 165 degrees (running it 15-20 minutes around the lake). When cruising the lake it sounds and runs good. When I stop, turn the engine off, start it, I?m unable to run it in neutral (800-1000 rpms). I?m able to run at a higher rpm, but as soon as I put into neutral it stalls (dies before I?m able to put into gear). I?ve cleaned the fuel filters, put in a new fuel pump, and put in new gas lines. I added a clear fuel filter between the fuel pump and carburetor. The filter has fuel in it when the engine stalls. I was told to put water on the fuel pump to cool it off (vapor locking), but it still stalls. The next morning the engine starts just fine, run fines when it idles and cruises, but goes bad again (same scenario as described). Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

I would check to make sure the choke is functioning
