I have a chrysler 55 hp outboard that has no spark. I hav egone trough the steps in the Chrysler service manual and still no spark from either coil.
Am i doing soemthing wrong. switch checks ok. i have voltage to rectifier and circuit breaker checks ok. Checked the points they seem to be opening and closing ok. I hit them a few times with an emery cloth and cleaned them as well. Still same thing. no spark. i also checked the ignition switch. M and M open when starting as it shows on circuit. Help? could it be the magnapower pack or rectifier? hate to spend a chunk on either if i can limit what is working or not.. This is model number 5591 sr# 3001

Re: Chrysler 55 no spark

I have never had electrical problems with mine so I am no expert. 5591 is from 1969. Are you sure it has a rectifier? Seems to me that old of a motor is still the old magneto ignition. Are the coils up under the flywheel or in back? I would start with the circuit breaker first and see if that is good

Two coils mounted on the back. the circuit breaker checks good. I show good voltage going to the square rectifier block. This one has overheat sensor, tach wire. Acording to the manual it says it is magneto. two sets of points. Magnapower C-D box, and recitfier. so yes i am stumped.
