We just got our first boat and I have a dumb question about the tilt. We have a 1989 Bayliner with a 150HP Force motor. The tilt seems to be locked in place, will it become unlocked once the boat is in the water and the motor running or do we have to manually unlock it first? I don't want to get to the boat launch and not be able to launch the boat. Thanks for any help!!

Does the motor have hydraulic tilt and trim?
I think all the 150's came with it.
You may have a trailering bracket holding it up.
Does the tilt motor do anything when you press the switch?

I guess you probably did not take the boat for a water test before you bought it. I hope everything works. An on water test drive is a must before buying any boat. And the seller should have demonstrated the proper use of everything.

Your best option now, is to take a safe boating course BEFORE you hit the water. Then find an experienced boater/friend, that can demonstrate the proper way to launch, start, operate, and load the boat.

Is the motor in the up, or the down position now?

The fuel MUST be mixed with the proper oil, in the proper ratio.

DO NOT start the motor out of the water.

What city/state are you located in? Perhaps one of the members here can stop by and help you out if you tell us where you are located.
