Default Motor capacity and Coast Gaurd ratings?

I just purchased a 1989 17' bluefin with a 50hp Force that is in very good condition. I was just wondering what size motor I could put on it, the coast gaurd plate is completely faded and I can not find out the ratings on this forum or on the internet. I also thought I read in a different forum (or possibly here) that someone transplanted a force 85 powerhead into a 50hp motor, is this posible? Also what motors can I use my stock controls for? They are in good condition and I would rather not rip them out if I can avoid it.

A friend had a similar vintage bluefin, believe it was rated for 90 hp.

You could try contacting Brunswick ( they bought out bluefin in about 1990).

They are the only source for a new rating placard.
If they can help you, you will need to provide the hull id number.

Thanks I have been looking for that for weeks! I looked and i found three or four different possiblities... I will call and get a new plate, now I wont have to worry about getting in trouble with the coast gaurd!

A little late for a reply, but we have the same boat, rated at 85HP. We applied to our state for a new rating plate(pennsylvania) and put on a 90hp yamaha. not many newer 85hp out there.

Yadleinad,

I think your Blue Fin is a 1988.
