Default 1993 Mercury 150 Horse Power

Hey all im looking at a boat that has 1993 twin 150 mercs on the back of it with only 200 hours on em. im looking for advice with them. in the other forum i was told they can be unreilable as heck. Are all older merc's like that? i just dont wanna buy this boat and have to spend another 20 grand repowering it since its got 2 motors on it. Is there anyhting in peticular i hsould be looking for on them? How much blue smoke should i be seeing out of a two stroke of that vintage?

Like any outboard they are as reliable as the quality of maintenance.

Compression and leakdown test essential, on the water demo desirable.

FWIW, they're as reliable as any 15 year old motor on the market.
