1987 115 mariner no spark

Serial Number: 0B217412 Model Number: 7115747 1987 115 mariner L6 no spark on number 3 and intermittent on 5 . The plugs and wires are new. The 1,3,5 cyl all go through the upper box could this box be bad and how can I check it. Also the wiring diagram in my book seem to be different form the wire on the motor. Any place to find a good wire digram The Idle stabilizer goes into the switch box not to number 3. I installed a new coil on number 3 still no spark. The motor starts up runs rough and no power. I am new to this so any help would be appreciated.

It sounds like a bad box but first disconnect the idle stabalizer they can do weird thing to a system

The idle stabilizer goes into both switch boxes and to the rectifier ( I think) The problem is my book does not show the same wiring system but if it safe to disconnect it I will give it a try. I was going to swap it out for a new one but the dealer wants $250 for a new one. He suggested to switch the boxes to see if the same problem happen with the lower box.

Rock, you can switch the boxs to ck them but the only thing those 2 cyls. have in common is the box. If it's a merc box they will tell you you need to switch both becaust if it's a shorted bias in one it can damage both boxes thats why we use CDI/Rapair parts they are much better than OEM parts and carry a better warrenty
