Default 1967 Mercury 350 - Starter Removal

I am trying to remove the starter from my 1967 Merc 350 to bring it in for a rebuild. I have removed all of the wiring and unbolted the starter but it doesn't just slip out easily. Is there an easy way to get it out? Can someone give me some direction?

Thanks....

The easiest way is to pull the powerhead, I have removed them by removing the bendix drive and tinkering around till the starter comes out. Nice set up Huh!

Well, that was a joy to get off

Took the starter apart and it looked like it had been sitting at the bottom of the lake for a few months....yuk! Muddy sludge!

So, I cleaned it up with parts cleaner and it looks OK. I am considering taking it to the rebuild shopo tomorrow to see if it can be rescued. If not, does anyone know what the replacement part would be. The one I took off is a Bosch with the numbers M0554017A stamped on the bottom plate, but I can't seem to locate that part number anywhere. Suggestions on a replacement if I need it?
