Unhappy Mercury Pee Hole

HI, TO ALL I have a mecury 850 . My question is how strong of a stream of water should be coming out of the pee hole. the motor had been sitting for 3 or more years. I got it started but noticed only a dribble coming out of the pee hole. So I replaced the impeller and got pretty much the same results. the stream gets stronger as rpms increase. I was wondering is this normal for the pee hole to dribble at idle. Any info would be helpful.thanks everyone

I have a 77 <erc 402 and even at idle the pee stream seems to be of a decent size and flow. It does increase dramatically with throttle. But certainly not a dribble.

when you did the impeller, was the old one in one piece. there could be blockages from old parts or crud. the internal waterpump parts could be worn as well. a waterpump kit comes in handy for this. the water tube could also be leaking where it goes into the powerhead causing you to lose flow

The impeller was in 1 piece but 1 blade was also cracked. What internal parts can be replaced on the water pump ? Or should I just buy a new pump

if you get the kit, its usually the upper housing, new gaskets and seals, and plate. water tube guide comes with some, that can cause poor tube seal, and flow losssome you can get a new base as well. the base should usually only ne touched if its cracked or your getting water in your gear lube. when the lower unit is off, you can put the tube back in, hook a hose too it and see that you have good flow and are getting returns through pee hole. the cooling passages can also be crudded up.

here's a kit example, but i'm not sure of your motor year

I'M GOING TO DROP THE LOWER UNIT TODAY TO SEE IF HAVE GOOD FLOW UP THRU THE WATER TUBE. I replaced the gaskets with the impellar, so if I have good water flow thru the water tube I must have done something wrong while replacing the impellar and need to buy another water pump kit . Is there anything I could use to help flush out the crude just in case. thanks to all

Just an update the pee hole was full of sand. I ended up disconnecting the rubber hose and flushed the engine. reconnected the hose and the pee hole works fine. thks. for all the helpful info.
