Re: Johnson 300 horse outboard

Disconnect battery

Drain lube from gearcase and remove prop

Disconnect shift rod connector from bellcrank by loosening bellcrank screw and nut. Spread bellcrank halves apart and disconnect shift rod connector from bellcrank.

Mark gearcase and adjustable trim tab for re install. Remove screw and trim tab

Using 5/8 inch thinwall socket, remove countersunk screw

Using 1/2 inch socket and short extension, remove screw from inside of trim tab cavity

using 9/16 inch socket, remove four screws (2 each port and starboard)

remove gearcase assembly from exhaust housing, being careful not to bend shift rod. Lower inner exhaust housing may come out with gearcase.

Re: Johnson 300 horse outboard

Thank you for the help. However, the lower unit is one solid piece, is not in halves.
