I was wondering if the 1985 90 HP V-4 Eninrude is prop or crank rated at 90HP?

what about a 1990 90 HP V-4 Johnson

I currently run a 85 90hp evinrude but was given a very nice 1990 90hp Johnson and may make a swap... just wondering if they are both prop rated?

what year did they start to prop rate motors?

what would a 90hp prop rated = crank rated?

The 1990 came with a tach, trim guage and the harness to hook it up... will this also work on my current 85? the wires and guages just came in a big box so I can not see where they were hooked up at.

if I swap the motors will I need to swap the VRO tanks as well? I am not sure if anything changed from 85 to 90... could I keep my old VRO tank and just plug it into the 1990 or is the tank different?

I am sure the real experts will clarifiy this for sure, but It is my understanding that you can just switch engines and use your old wiring and vro tank. The systems are the same through 1995.

Yep, plug & play. The motors are identical except for some minor cosmetic changes. Both are prop rated V4 crossflows. The V4 crossflows became prop rated in 1985. Not all OMC motors changed in 85 but the crossflows did. Both your 90's are the same as a 1984 115 as for power.

cool, thanks

I may do the swap because the Johnson looks quite a bit better and is 5 years newer.... did the VRO change at all? I thought I had read that 84 and 85 used a different VRO system than 86 and up?
