Any help would appreciated I hae a 1989 70 hp merc 2 cycle 3 cyl. It only has about 200 hrs on new engine. new gas lines and new Johnson/everuide primer bulb. The primer will get hard after 6 or 7 pumps and motor won't start at all even with choke on. It is strange as I can sometimes wait a hour or two and it starts right up . and it all ways will start at the first touch if it has not sit mre that a few min . Motor runs perfect after start . I believ3e the choke is the kind that just pumps gas into the carbs and it has just been replaced.

Your engine has a primer on it, not a choke it's a fairly simple system, when you pump the bulb up it fills the carbs, when you push the primer it opens a valve that lets fuel travel thru a line and prime the bottom 2 carbs. Reasons it won't work 1. the top carb has no fuel (stuck inlet needle) 2. the line between the carb and primer unit is obstruted 3. the primer it's self is plugged or not working. 4. the line from the primer to the carb or the fitting that lets the fuel in the carbs are obstruted
