Default Evinrude 112- Starting/idling problems

1996 2 stroke no oil injector- The motor runs fine at any speed above start and idle. Does not seem to miss a beat. But starting is not a fun task. It starts ok but requires some decent amount of throttle. And with that I still don't get it going until at least the third time. Every time it starts, even when warm it sputters. It sounds like it's miss firing almost with sputters or even more like very small back fires. Once I get it to that point and add some more throttle to it, it will catch up to itself and be ok. Once under way it will idle and run slow but it just will not start that way and to be fair it does not idle under way very well either. In short, the thing just requires some throttle to run correctly. I did replace the spark plugs but you know how that goes... could be bad before they went in. The boat was sitting throughout the winter. I bought it in January and it still had fuel in it so it was not conditioned correctly. So I am looking at either a gas line or compression or firing issue. Any suggestions?

i think you are looking at dirty carb low speed jets. what is your idle rpm in gear in the water.
