You are gonna need the shop manual for sure, hunters.
The manual will call for "special tools", but most of the job can be done with tools from your local auto store, with the exception of presses and such. You'll have trouble with bearings that are pressed-in, and this will be the biggest headache.
At least, it is mine. When I tear-into a L/U,and need to pull them, I take them to a local machine shop. I know these guys by "first name". But I do my repairs in my tiny one-car garage, and don't have the space or the greenage for the press and metal working equipment that these units call for. But the good news is, a machine shop will take up the slack and do it at a reasonable price, still way cheaper and quicker than a marina.
Check-in with the guys here, and let us know how you are getting along with it.
