Default Yamaha Engine Poll

All of the ethanol and clogged injector discussion has me worried. The last thing I want to do is buy a brand new problem. For my own sake, and hopefully for the sake of everyone on this board if you have a Yamaha engine, please respond to this post. Hopefully the result will be a consensus of what needs to be done (or not done) that benefits everyone.

1. Type/year of Yamaha engine
2. Fuel additive (if so, what kind)
3. External fuel filter?
4. Rate per month that you burn fuel (gallons per month)
5. Ethanol fuel (percentage if you know)
6. Anything else special about your fuel system?

Default Re: Yamaha Engine Poll

I don't own a Yamaha, but maybe I can relieve your trepidations a bit. On a new motor with a new fuel system holding the supply, clogs shouldn't be of concern. The systems are made to tolerate it and there are no old deposits waiting to be dislodged or dissolved by ethanol. It's when you run ethanol-mixed gas through old systems that you tend to have problems. The obvious solution is to use straight gas without ethanol. That's not possible in more and more areas, but the old-wives-tale that outboards run better on Premium just isn't true. Most are made specifically to run on regular grade straight unleaded gas with 10% alcohol alcohol content "tolerable". It's the higher octane gasolines that almost automatically contain alcohol.
