Last week I had to disassemble the tilt motor attached to my '73 85HP as the gaskets needed to be replaced, although the motor did work at the time. When the top cover was removed, the brushes fell apart into a couple of pieces. I happened to have a couple of spare carbon brushes for an A/C motor laying around that fit the tilt motor perfectly. Now the tilt dosn't work at all. The original brushes in the tilt seem to be of much harder material and are copper in color, where as the A/C brushes are soft black carbon. Does anyone know if A/C & D/C brushes are interchangeable? Thanks.
