90 HP Mercury quits at 4000rpm

I have a late 80's 90 HP Merc that runs real good until it reachs 4000 rpms then just cuts out. When you turn off key and restart it it starts up right away with no problems. Can anyone tell me where to look for the problem. I have already had a new module instaled to see if that was the problem but it doesn't seem to make any difference.

Have someone pump the fuel primer bulb. if the motor's performance improves, rebuild the fuel pump. If not, you may have a stator issue.
