Compatible? Mercruiser 165hp vs 190Hp (3.7l)

Hi all, as my present engine Mercruiser 3.7l 165hp -87 is knocking, I've plans on buying another one. I have found a 3.7l 190hp I guess from -89.
Are they compatible? regarding cooling motormounts and so on?

The short answer is 'yes'. The only difference is that the 190 has a bigger carb and redesigned exhaust, other than that they are identical.

Thanks, so I guess I only have to look for the common problems, leaking waterpump, alternator, an 3 or 4" cooling?

Don't quote me on this, but I think the 190s came standard with the 5" heat exchanger....

Just wanna bring this to the top.

According to www.mercruiserparts.com they seems to be compatible?, but 190hp seems older than 165hp.

I need help in this so I dont buy an incompatible engine - anyone?

They only built those motors for a Few years,...... They're All pretty much the Same.......

Pretty much the same? Of what I can find the difference are Carburetor and fuel pump.
Anyone who knows the answer to my question - are 165hp and 190hp compatible? meaning can I replace a 165hp with a 190hp engine?

If just changing the long block, should NOT be a problem. Check over at Breezeworks.

Thanks for the reply, but the the engine I'm planning to buy are a complete engine with careburator and alternator and so on, but I guess that changes nothing?
