using ear muffs

I want to start a Johnson 70 to make sure it starts and hear how it sounds.
I'm a rookie.

What else should I be aware of besides:
1. attaching the hose,
2. securing the muffs,
3. turning on the water and
4. starting the motor for a few seconds?

you can run the motor for ever on muffs, as long as they are attached correctly, and a good water source. never leave the boat running, as kids, dogs, and vibration have been known the knock them off and burn up a good motor. new rev over 1500rpms on muffs.
