VRO Pump Interchange.

I have a 1986 GT 150 that the oil pump ingested water and as a result killed a cylinder. Compression test was all cly 90-95 and 1 with 25 psi.
My question is that I see a lot of vro pumps on ebay off of v-8 engines with different part numbers than " i shop marine" calls for this motor, some even say that their pump will fit all motors that use vro pumps. I don't want to pay $330 dollars for a new pump. I would think that they would be calibrated different

Re: VRO Pump Interchange.

use the one for your engine. also consider deleting the vro, and going premix. the 80's vro's have proven to be troublesome.

I believe the pump was working but was pumping water instead of oil, the engine died twice and did not want to restart until 5 or 10 min.
Since the vro had water in it, should I replace it before a rebuild? I still need interchange information.

From the VRO story:

...Do not interchange any of the springs with other pump assemblies. They are calibrated for each model of pump.

The latest P/N 5004558 (superceded to 5007420) pump is a universal fit that can be used as a replacement for all VRO equipped motors and each part is available for servicing....

Thanks Seahorse5
The next step will be to rebuild the powerhead.
