newbie! please help!mercury 90hp ignition

I had a fiberform boat with a 90hp mercury given to me came with no keys not running so I'm trying to hot wire the moter seems to have good compression I prety sure I have all the battery wires hooked up right
So the problem I'm having is bolth the coils have ground power to the posts

You need to post your year and serial number. Those motors have different ignition systems, depending on the year. If the motor has a distributor, you need to have battery power on the white wire on the switchbox in order to have spark. If it is distributorless, you need to disconect the orange wire on the switchbox.

PS A dealer can give you a key, if you bring the key number to him.

Thanks! white wire to switch! after I cenected the white wire I thought I'd go though all my keys and found one that fit. the I'm not sure of the year how do I find out.
Now problem no spark tested at coils?

Look on the mounting bracket in the front where it swivels on the transom. The serial number should be there.
