Any reccommendations on wires and plugs for a V6 4.3L 205hp ? Do the wires have to be marine grade?

Your going to need a marine set just to get them to fit. Most marine and automotive sets are not interchangeable. NAPA should be able to get the marine wires to fit your application.

I would guess it's going to depend on what you actually have. The plug wires vary from manufacturer to manufacturer, and year to year.
What year OMC, or Volvo, or Mercruiser do you have........ and what is the model number.

It's an '85 Chaparral 198XL Mercruiser V6 4.3L
Is one brand of wires better than the other?

Go to napa and tell them you need Marine grade spark plug wires for your Merc 4.3 V-6 ,, might as well get some NGK`s for too.

Re: Spark plug wires ?

I think "marine" plug wires are a load of crap. I've been running Chevy plug wires in my 3.0 Cobra that I bought at Autozone for close to 10 yrs. As a matter of fact, I just changed them out this season, only because the boot on the coil wire was bad. So I broke down & spent another 10 bucks for a new set. Never had a problem.

Ayuh,............ To a point,..... You're Right..........

But,............

All sparkplug Wires are Application Specific,................

Some Dist. Caps have Innies,+ Some have Outies,...... Just like your belly button.......
Also,.......
Some wire sets have Straight Plug Boots,+ others have Angled Boots,.........
Some have longer wires(or Shorter) for different Routing of the wires........

A couple yeas ago,...... I needed a set for My 4.3LX,..... I also had a Brand New set for a 4.3l pickup truck.......
Soooo,..... I Tried to use them,..... It didn't Work,..... They were mostly Too Short,.... The pickup truck ran the wires up,+ over the motor,.... Merc. runs them Down,+ Under the Exhaust..... That,+ the Straight plug boots, made most of them Too Short........

So,..........
You're Right in that there's No Difference in the Actual Wire used,.......
But,.......There will be a Difference in the final finished Product,......
Which May, or may Not fit your motor.........
