Default Carb Idle Mixture Setting 85 Mariner 50

Finally finished rebuilding my Lowe 16 foot Bass Boat and took it out on Sunday. The motor ran well but after some hours of fishing using the trolling motor it was a different story on the way to the launch. Motor started well but would die when given throttle. After a number of attempts I used the contol button to rev the motor in neutral, no problems. Ran it at 2000 RPM for a few seconds and then put it in gear and away we went with good throttle response. Read my manual to see how to set the idle mixture as it seems to be starving for gas upon acceleration. It tellls me to turn in until the engine slows and misfires, and then to turn it out 1 to 1 1/2 turns. I checked the carb settings and they are both at 1 1/4 turns from seated. I am guessing they are set to lean and causing my problems. The gas lines are good, the carbs were rebuilt when I bought it late last year and the plugs are new. I will try adjusting the idle mixture tomorrow but wondering if I am on the right track.

If you have to clean it out by reving it up before shifting it's probably to rich. When adjusting idle mix on those carbs, adjust them in gear, screw the needle in 1/8 turn at a time giving the mix a chance to normalize each time when it misfires back it out till the misfire stops and open not more than 1/4 turn, do the other carb and then adjust them again. If after the second adjustment the engine hesitates on acceleration, open both low speeds up 1/8 turn at a time till the flat spot is gone
