Merc 350 I/o hard starting when cold

my engine starts hard when cold. it has a clear glass fuel filter mounted next to the carb, and its dry, then from cranking it builds fuel again, and eventually starts. What causes the fuel to go recede??

If you have an inline glass fuel filter, my guess would be that it is not supposed to be there. Someone may have added one in the line.

What's causing the fuel to recede is a good question... someone else will chime in soon, but for safety sake, I would get rid of the glass fuel filter.

Hello,

If the gas is receding out of the line, you may have an air/vaccuum leak somewhere, possibly a carb gasket or even the fuel pump.
