my son lost the key to his remote control, 1983 Evinrude, push choke starter. Any idea how to get a replacement key short of taking the whole thing apart?

Look for a number right beside the key slot. With that number, a dealer can get you a key. Or a good locksmith can make one from the number if he can figure out who made the lock. The kid that makes keys at wallly world is not a locksmith.
