Default Throttle/Shifter cables--Mercury 50 hp o.b.

I need to change out the throttle and shifter cables on my 1978 Mercury 50 hp o.b. It has a Mercury shifter box and uses 10' cables. I would appreciate advice and pointers on the most efficient way to do this.

Since I don't have a manual yet, maybe someone knows a site where I could download instructions. I am new to this forum but you will probably see me back from time to time since I have recently got another rig after 20 years without a boat.

I went to my local marina... told em what I needed. (IE Cables)

After careful inspection of the previous install (Merc 40hp o.b.) it was vary easy. I didn't adjust ANYTHING inside the motor or the box. Everything worked out beautifully.

Jump right in.

Thanks scrobo--I picked up my new cables yesterday. I'll tackle the project as soon as I have a chance and will let you know how it went.

It is actually very easy and somewhat self explanatory. Give it a shot and let us know how you do.

When I got my motor I did not know I needed new cables or anything. I got home.. and ordered new cables and a new box (didn;t know if Evinrude box could be used or not.. still don;t to this day...)

Everything was pretty easy and I had to adjust very little.

Being a noob I took my time... Seems to work out ok.
