I have a 1990, 28 ft. pontoon with a 100hp Evinrude outboard. Our mechanic says that he has done all he can with the remote throttle control box and that we should either replace it with a used one or buy a new one. I would not trust a used one to be any better than the one I have and am finding it difficult to find a new one. Can the control box be rebuilt and if so is anyone here interested? Does anyone know someone who would do a reputable rebuild?

the control box (assuming it is an original OMC one) is a piece of cake to fix, and I think all parts are still available, let me guess, you cannot get enough movement to get forward and reverse? you can get neutral and forward OR neutral and reverse but not both! if that is the case, it is the two little gears that move the cable when the lever id shifted (before the throttle picks up)

I have a '95 that needed to be simply cleaned and lubed because the throttle cam was corroded. My Seloc manual explained everything I needed to know to put the 30 or so parts back together and it works like new now. I think it took me a couple hours to clean, lube and re-assemble.
