changing spark plugs

We have just purchased a pontoon boat and would like to change the spark plugs. Could someone please tell us how to remove the cowling and also what kind of plugs to use? We have a 1978 65 hp Mercury outboard. SN: 3808765. Thanks!

Find someone has has any outboard knowledge around ya..cowls so simple to remove its ..well..better get a manual

There is a knob on the front cover. Turn it to remove cover. There are two hooks on the front of the side wrap around piece. Unhook these to remove. The is a clamp on the front of the top piece. Flip up to remove top cover. That serial no. should be a 1974. Spark plugs are Champion L76V.
