All power goes to the solenoid but does not go through the solenoid, changed solenoid and still have same problem! Motor is a Johnson @1975/1976 85hp 4cy 2 stroke. Any advise? Ideas? Thank you for any ideas you might have, tried most everything but could have missed one simple thing.

how did you determine no power through the solenoid?

does the solenoid click when you turn the key to start?

If so, have you measured the voltage between the solenoid output terminal (the one leading to the starter) and the battery (-) post (when key is turned to start)? And you get zero volts?

OMC/BRP V4 solenoids all have two small wires connecting to the two small connectors. One is a ground and one is 12 volts from the ignition switch. The ground wire needs to be securely grounded to the engine block.

The 12 volt supply to the ignition switch comes from the small red fused wire connected to the large post on the solenoid.

You can jump 12 volts from there to the small positive connection, but check the 20 Amp fuse first.

If the fuse is OK and the solenoid works OK when jumped, I would next check the large red harness plug, then the ignition switch.

sounds like it may not be getting good ground. i would take off the ground on the engine and sand it to make sure the wire ends are touching metal.
