1972 or 1973 Evinrude Big Twin 40 HP

MY 1972 or 1973 Evinrude Big Twin 40 HP runs fine except at full speed. At full speed it runs ok for several hundred yards and then acts like the fuel is shut off. When you pull back on the throttle, it stays running at lower RPM. Fuel line and squeez bulb were changed and it made no difference. Is it probable that the fuel pump could be causing this issue. If not, do you have any other ideas. Thanks, Jim

Could be the fuel pump. Could also be the tank. Or any other leaks anywhere between the tank and fuel pump. Is the plastic filter cover on the fuel pump cracked?

Thanks for your help. I ordered a new fuel pump kit. Hope this solves the problem. Jim
