Mercruiser 170 - Front Cam Seal Replacement

I need to replace my front cam seal (since coolant is leaking from the weep vent) and wanted to know if this is a straight forward project, or something that should be done by a mechanic. I have some experience working on engines, but not much.

In addition, is the fact that I have the aftermarket charging system (an external alternator) a blessing in this situation. I have read many posts that state that the rotor causes a lot of problems when replacing the seal.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The front "rotor" has to come off, so the fact that you have an external charging system makes no difference in this repair. It is a fairly involved repair and it takes time and patience. There is a discussion board that is devoted strictly to these engines. A lot of info on this and many other "quirky" repairs related to the "big block 4 cylinders"
