Back in 2000, I moved into a water-front home in southern Ontario. Thousands of carp have died over the past few weeks creating an unbelievable stench. Based on the bloated and hemorrhenging carcasses, many people believe that the hemorrhagic septicemia virus is respondsible. To make things worse, waterfowl and gulls that usually number in the thousands are nowhere to be found anywhere on the lake:

And it seems to be spreading to the neighboring lake within the Kawarthas.

I hope it doesn't spread to game fish.

We are really messing up a good thing nature created. We're having die offs here in Lake Ontario as well. I believe they are calling it bottulism.

I've noticed in Victoria Harbour last week, some areas were completely filled with dead baitfish, and I mean large areas.

If only the carps are affected then send some of them bugs down here to the Missisippi, Missouri and Illinois river. We sure need to thin out the carp population down here.

We have a similar issue in the susquahanna in Pa. It lasts about a month may-june everywhere you look there is dead fish I dont think it is to the extent you guys are gettting but it is happening. The pa fish commision said it happens every year and it is a natural bacteral desease due to the water warming, that is "normal" and no need for concern. It is mothers natures way of control...?????

Here is a link. We now have Viral Hemmoragic Septicemia here is Wisconsin. It looks like it affects all fish. Not good. Like Ebola for fish.

I was surpirsed to hear that the lake my BIL is on has Zebra Mussels now. Must have been brought in on a boat.
