Default Oil injection 115 yamaha

Hi im just curious as to how you can tell that the oil injection system is working in a 1985 yamaha 115ETLJ? I bought the motor out of the paper and ran it for the first time tonight. There is a resivour inside the cowling and im not sure if that is the oil or the trim pump hydro oil. There is an external oil tank that came with it but i did not hook that up yet. I ran 50:1 gas through it for a few min. just to test the motor out and it ran perfectally. The guy i bought it from said he had not run it in 3 years. But it ran absolutely perfectally. I just dont know how to tell if the oil injection is working. I never had an oil injected motor and dont know how to tell if it is working. I almost would rather pre-mix as i will be using 3-6 gallon tanks for this. But the guy told me that he only used yammalube the life of the motor. He said that that makes the motor last longer. Any advice is apreciated!!

I pulled the lid off of the oil tank inside the cowling next to the power head. There is like a dipstick in there with 3 holes in it. I think the 3 holes is how it knows how much oil is in the oil tank. Well i had it running using premix 50:1 and whyle it was running I pulled out the dipstick and a alarm buzzer went off inside the controlls. That is a good sign that its working properly but it dosent tell me that its pumping oil. Also how long does the yamalube oil last?? This motor came with a external tank that has a lot of oil still in it. The guy i bought the motor from did not use the motor for 2 seasons before i bought it. So im wondering if i can still use this oil or should i drain it and get new??

ok, first, I would use the injection...it's really dependable on Yamaha....all you have to do is mark tank with marker and run for 20 mins....level should go down....I would not use the oil in that big tank unless it is PRISTINE...and make really sure no sludge layer or water in bottom inch of tank...be careful with the sensor you pulled, has gasket on end..if you don't see the gasket, it may be in engines tank and will clog 'drain' to motor....not good.....also there is a very small filter on big tank's backside....change it.

ok cool!! thanks. I read somewhere i should run 50:1 through to test and unplug the tube that goes into the engine. After 5 min of running at 2000 rpm i should have 3.2 oz. of oil. And then do it again at idle speen for 5 min and i should have 1.4 oz of oil. Soulds like a good test i just did not want to go through all that. And i dont know where to get yamalube. Do you think it will be ok to use quicksilver or the jonnyrude brand of the 2 cycle oil? Thanks for your help!!!!

I don't really believe that using either of those two oils will hurt a thing....I think Citgo makes at least two of the tree to manufacturers standards...just don't use any other than these three....Yamalube is usually from dealer, but I've seen it at a store...think it was West Marine, can't remember

hey yamamarine do you know how i can get the rack steering end out of my outboard i have started a new post just wondering if you can help me you seem to know everything i need to know. Im going to get one of the 2 cycle oils that walmart sells. One is the jonnyrude and one is the quicksilver brand for mercury. They both list that they can be used in all brands. And both are semi-synthetic smokeless. Just wondering which one is better? and wondering if you know anything about the trouble that im having with the steering cable. There is pictures in the other post. Thanks a lot you helped already more than you know. And you say that the yamaha precision blend injection is pretty reliable do you think that i should do that test i described or just draw that line in the oil tank and see if it uses oil?? Thanks again.

First the large tank that is boat mounted feeds the engine mounted tank. It in turn feeds the oil pump to the cylinders.
I would advise to use the mixed fuel until you can confirm the whople system is working.
