I am new to boating and have bought a boat that was rebuilt and sat for just over a year winterized. I put it in the water for the first time last weekend. It ran rough and feel needs a tuneup. Me and my family sat in the water for about an hour just enjoying the day. I tried to start motor it ran really rough, I noticed that the engine compartment was full of water right up to under the motor.
I suspect its a seal leak on the outdrive. Is this something that can be done by a mechanic? Does anyone know where I can get the kit to repair this problem?
Your assistance would be appreciated.
David.

I'm not but I do have a mechanic to do the work. I am mechanically inclined though and do some of my own repairs but never on a boat.
Can you help me please?
Thanks for your reply.

Mine was leaking through the shift cable bellow so I just changed them all. Go out and look at all of them tilt the motor all the way up and look then tilt it half way down then all the way down. They can be changed but they are a real pain to do plus you will have to have the manule good luck.

Guys thanks a lot. It turned out 2 of the bellows are definitely cracked and have wholes.
When I purchased I saw it and asked the seller if that was a problem. He said no and said just put the boat in the water and have fun.
