Can a bad alternator = poor engine performance?

Just a quick question, can a bad alternator cause poor engine performance due to a lack of consistent voltage?

The alternator was only putting out about 10v when I had it checked.... a new alternator is on order. I was trying to determine if the alternator may have caused some performance issues (loss of power, rough idle, etc...) when was out last weekend. If not, I may have other things to look at.

I know your post is old (I was searching for something)... did your alternator cause bad engine performance due to too low or too high of a voltage going to the coil?
